How to Completely Avoid the 10 Most Critical Mistakes Most Parents Make Regarding College Funding…part 1″

When trying to find money for college tuition most parents make 10 common mistakes

If you make any one of these mistakes it could end up costing you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars by way of lost funding that you might have been eligible for.

Let’s get started on this article content that will reveal to you how to get the most amount of funding possible from every school your child applies to

Mistake #1 Most middle & upper-middle class parents assume they won’t be eligible for financial aid because they own a home & make too much money.

The reality is Many families that make $50,000-$100,000 will be able to secure tuition dollars from Federal Grants private foundations etc. You just need to know where to look

You just have to know how to get your “fair share”.

You need to at least try & apply because many times you’ll get SOMETHING….too many parents make a half-hearted attempt & thengive up

The 2nd Mistake is focusing on the wrong area. Instead of trying to get aid based on your need you try to go after private scholarship funds

But the fact is that 99% of all the available funds come from school your child applies to or the Federal Government….and only 1% from Private Scholarshps Focus on where you can get the most.

Mistake #3 Assuming only minority students athletes & academically gifted students get financial aid.

This is just not true

The government gives a calculation of “need” & you need to calculae the family’s effective contribution compared to the cost of attendance

Whatever is left over after you subtract these two numbers is your “financial need” or eligibility for financial aid at a particular school. If you haven’t noticed this has nothing to do with a student’s ethnic background athletic ability or grades. It’s based purely on this simple formula:

Finacial Need =Expected Family Contribution from Cost of Attendance

Mistake #4-Not realizing where your child falls in relation to he rest of the student body when choosing a school

Schools will give the best financial aidpackages to students with the best GPA/SAT/ACT & who are in the to 10% of incomg freshmen

Only apply where your child wil be in the top persen because you have to play the school’s game….they want top students

Mistake #5-Thinking tat every school ist he same & will be willing to give the same level of funds

Remember that all schools are not the same & have different financial aid packages. Some schools have large alumni associations & are well-endowed. These are the ones that are more willing to give you money

State universities don’t get any private money & they have to get their help from Federal Government to help their students

In many cases these schools leave students short & give them less money than they are eligible to receive. It can actually end up costing you more to send your child to a “cheaper” school if they don’t have the money to meet your need. It is very important that you know each school’s history of giving money before you ever apply so you’re not blown away when you get a bad financial aid package from your child’s top school choice.
