The 1957 Corvette; a Successful Failure!
The 1957 Chevrolet ‘Vette almost didn’t make it to 1957 & all but did a crash & burn a few years prior. Why did this auto which has won the hearts of many come within a hair’s breath of being canceled?
Chevy initially presented the two-seater Corvette or ‘Vette’ in 1953. It was the obsession & brainchild of the celebrated designer Harley Earl. Mr. Earl had been designing for the company since the late 1920’s & at last managed to persuade Chevrolet to develop a two seater sports car to compete against the MGs Alfas & other European automobiles that were being introduced to the US market by returning GIs.
While the 53 Chevrolet Corvette was hailed for its killer looks & terrific body its engine performance was distinctly unexciting unadventurous & just plain bad. The Ford Thunderbird further threatened the future life of the car that would in due course go down in the annals of American auto history as ‘the only true American sports car’ by outselling the Corvette by 24 to 1. Ouch that must have hurt
While the T-bird was looking great on the roads of America the Chevrolet Corvette not yet the 1957 model was still looking longingly at potential buyers in the showrooms. It was at this point in time that GM was said to have been considering killing it off or in the words of an enthusiast ‘murdering it’. Things were definitely not looking good for the ‘Vette.
Enter the powerful V8 engine & Zora Arkus-Duntov. Zora who to a certain extent erroneously became known ever after as the father of the Corvette inspired the V8 design & specifications for the 1957 Corvette. The V8 is recognized with being the most significant modification made to the Corvette up to that point.
Enough of the auto history. Granted a new engine the 1957 Corvette went from so-so to strength in performance & was reborn as a true sports car.
While the 57 Chevy is as synonymous with the American dream as Mom’s home-made apple pie the US does not have the monopoly on automobiles in dreams. The Chevy Corvette began appearing in the dreams of sleepers the world over & started attracting fans all over the globe. The unsuspecting public was introduced to the Corvette by its frequent guest TV appearances where it often achieved its own listing in the credits How’s that for a comeback story?
The 1957 Corvette is coveted by classic auto enthusiasts all over the globe. The 1957 Corvettes are selling at car auctions for anywhere from $70,000 on up with apparently no lack of adoring buyers. The automobile world is now anxiously waiting for the introduction of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette anticipated to appear sometime during 2010.

Ferrari F430 - A Supercar’s Supercar
The 430 was born of space age technology. It hasn’t all aluminum chassis was made through a partnership with Alcoa. The frame of the 430 is shared with the Ferrari 360. The structure & the rigidity of the 430 was really worked by changing around beans on the floor of the vehicle. In fact the 430 shares some of the exact same parts as used in the Ferrari 360 Modena.
To call the 430 sexy is an understatement. The Ferrari 430 is slightly redesigned from 360 to be more aerodynamic & curvaceous. Much like the 360 with 430 has a minimal drag coefficient. Although similar the 430 produces a tremendous amount of down force. You can see a lot of Ferrari’s heritage within the car. It has the taillights of an Enzo as well a similar front air vents. It has the names etched into the mere much is the same way as the Ferrari Testarossa. Even the front openings in the bumper are similar to racing models of the 60s.
The Ferrari 430 shares the same 4.3 L V8 power plant as similar Maserati models. The new power plant is big change for the 430. All of the engines of V8 Ferrari’s of the past were descendents of the Dino racing program out of a’50s. All of that came to an end with the new 4.3 L engine that replaces the 12 engines that were found in a lot of earlier Ferrari models. The amazing 430 can generate 483 hp at 8500 RPM. Notwithstanding the 430 can accelerate to a top student of over’6 mph.
Special attention was brought to the Ferrari 430s brakes. For 30 buyers can choose from cast iron alloy brakes or carbon fiber reinforced ceramic brakes. Ceramic brakes have a higher stopping power & heat resistance than traditional metal brakes. Not only that they also offer a longer life span. Ferrari claims that the ceramic brakes will not fade after even 300 laps around the test track.
The Ferrari 430 is outfitted with a computer-controlled slip differential. This computer controls the distribution of torque based on steering angle & lateral acceleration. The carmaker claims this to be a world’s first. Ferrari drivers can select from five different settings on the steering wheel that cover electronic suspension transmission behavior & throttle response. The 430 also has run flat tires that are uni-directional & covered by Goodyear.
Even though the 430 is an entry-level Ferrari it no slouch. The 430 packs mind numbing acceleration rocketing from 0 to 60 miles for our & 3.5 seconds. The 430 is the third fastest Ferrari ever made. It should be noted that that the 0 to 60 time was achieved with launch control. American versions of the 430 do not have launch control.

The Truth And Excitement About Fast Cars
Most people especially the car lover when asked about which car they are going to buy if they have the money to spare their answer is sports car that is high in quality. A lot of people argue about what is the exact meaning of high quality but all are in the same mind when the sports car is the subject.
For all a high quality sports car is one that has the speed. The ‘94 Dauer 962 LeMans is noted as the fastest sports car. In just 2.6 seconds this car accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour. This is the fastest because other cars like Ferrari Enzo the fastest car of Ferrari speeds up from 0 to sixty miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds.
The fastest sports car that is ever invented is the ‘94 Dauer 962 LeMans. This car can go from a resting zero to sixty miles per hour in as short as 2.6 seconds. This is far faster than the speed of the Ferrari ENZO the fastest car of all the Ferrari models which can cover zero to sixty miles in 3.5 seconds. This is why this is usually pinpointed as the fastest car there is by those people who do not really know much about cars.
The design of sports car is not just made to project that cool & sleek design. The aerodynamic design of it together with its other accessories contributes to the speed of the car. This is because with the sleek design the car can go against the wind even at its top speed. It tends to be slippery against the strong wind that it needs to face. This is also the reason why sports cars are tested in wind tunnels to find out the performance of the car under great speed.
The acceleration of the sports car is also affected by its weight. This is the rationale behind the makers of the first-rate sports car & the race cars use composite materials that are lightweight. They want to lessen the whole weight of the car.
The weight of the car is another determinant of its speed. The lighter it the faster it can go. It is also this fact that sports cars are composed of lightweight materials. This is to reduce the overall weight of the car.
Another important factor that contributes to the speed of a car is the way a car is able to control when it’s driving into a corner or making its way around the bends. The straight-line speed should be maintained by a veritable sports car when going at tight curves at a very fast speed. The reason why the sports cars are rear wheel drive is because of this.
The way a car is manoeuvered when passing through a curve is another factor. Sports cars can maintain a straight-line speed during turns even if they are running at high speeds. These cars also have a rear wheel drive so as the weight of the driver will not affect the speed when these cars make a turn. This type of drive can help in better weight distribution.
